For the past week I have been completely without any of my three children. It’s been an odd experience; at first I was at a loss as to what to do with my time if I didn’t have any kids to herd. After a few days when it became apparent that their dad, Matt, would be needed in Utah and the kids would not be returning I simply relaxed and decided to not even think about time. And so I haven’t. It has been like a mini stay at home vacation, one where I swim laps at the pool whenever I please, take long bike rides, stay up late or remain in bed in the mornings if the whim hits. I’ve had long lunches with old friends and spent entire afternoons doing nothing but reading. Don’t get me wrong, I miss my children with a passion but this time has been nothing short of lovely.

Today my mom and I head to the mountains, the ones higher than where we currently live, for a weekend of camping. There we will enjoy the silence to the fullest, do some canoeing, more reading, hiking. Good times in the heat of August.
