This year has been one of tremendous progress for Devon. True, I have always babied him more than I did the others, but his story has been so different from those of his siblings. Sometimes when I let my mind wander to the various what-if scenarios that could have been were it not for his life saving surgery, I give thanks for all the bumps that have come in to our lives with him. The following is a just a short list of some Devon’s accomplishments this year. There are plenty more, but since he is chirping in my ear to help him locate a non-existent tennis under my bed, this will be it for right now:
* Devon has finally adjusted to preschool, forming a group of young thugs who terrorize the playground with their war cries.
* He made the transition from a crib to a magnificent car bed that he absolutely loves.
*Solid food, in small amounts and in very specific varieties, is now a part of his diet.
*Devon had his first play date with a lovely girl from his preschool class. And it went swimmingly well, no melt downs at all.
* And just today Devon had his first real hair cut. Until now I have been nipping away with a pair of scissors when the opportunity arises. But now he has a real do! He was highly suspicious of the whole thing, insisting that his sister get one first just to show that it wasn’t a dangerous activity.

The Donald Jr? Is that you?
Umm, Heather… he looks just like Donald Trump…
The two of you are awful. I leave my house but once a year and to imagine I will be spending that outing with the two of you. If the two of you were to be cast in a Disney movie you would be the two Siamese cats who go about eating pet fish and thwapping babies with their tails.
