I so know her. Or maybe she knows me just a little bit better.

Little Miss to me as she gets in the car after school: “Hey, Mom! How are you? How was your day? What did you do today?”
I am immediately suspicious. I love her to pieces and I know she loves me…but. Usually when she gets in the car her nose is buried in a book and she holds out her hand for food while she continues reading until we are home. Then she flits out of the car and into the house where she inhales some more food and then saunters to the couch for yet more reading. Between then and dinner she surfaces as more food is needed. So any sudden interest in my time is a red flag.
Me to her: “Um, I had a good day. I took Devon to OT where he actually ate an entire piece of fruit leather. It was very exciting.”
Her: “Really? That is so cool. Good for him!” She replies with just a tad too much enthusiasm in her voice.
Me: “So what gives, Red? What do you want?”
Her: “Twilight!!!!!!!!!!!! It comes out of Friday. Some of the girls are cutting school to go see it and their moms are even letting them! Can I go? Huh?”
Me: “No. Duh.”
At this point she opened up her book and refused to look at me. That is until we went to the grocery store where she talked me into a $10 Twilight magazine. Ten. Dollars. For a freaking magazine with crappy quality pictures. But she worked me over good for my Uncool Mom Guilt of not letting her ditch school. Little witch.
