Having three kids means that three times around I get to go through the same milestones and the same entertainments. Having three kids with such varying ages means that I get to have more than a few years in between them to recover from horrors such as Barney, 897 viewings of 101 Dalmations and Hard hat Harry. And in between those stints more awful videos come on the market. Loren favored Hard Hat Harry, Cassidy watched 101 Dalmations so many times that I still find myself acting out Roger’s and Pongo’s conversations. Devon has taken to Bob the Builder.
There is one video in particular that Devon loves. I have no idea what the title is, but the storyline follows Bob and his chatty building machines as they construct a bandstand. In it Farmer Pickles loses his music to that simpleton scarecrow fellow and the machines end up saving the day. But before they do, Farmer Pickles is chatting and he says, “Excuse me while I waive my stick in the air. ” But since I am about as deep as a mud puddle and as simple as a 14 year-old boy, I always think he is saying, “Excuse me while I waive my dick in the air.” It never fails to launch me into a fit of giggles and Devon must wonder why I find Bob and his crew so amusing. But really, Farmer Pickles? Waiving a stick? I have watched enough of these kid’s shows. I know better.

You know, you really have to take your entertainment where you can find it. I have nurtured Zen Baby’s love of Zaboomafoo not because I want her to develop a love of animals and watch strictly educational tv; it’s all about the Kratt brothers and my fantasy life.
I also get the giggles every time Captain Feathersword says “blow me down” and have done the slo-mo viewing of the dvd to ascertain if that really was his “sword” when he fell down.
