Okay, because our weekend? Truly cool. On Saturday we had a super soccer day where Cass scored a whopping three goals in her pre-birthday game. She got so fired up by the competition, as tends to happen with her, that I could hear her yelling when the other team had the ball. Upon kick-off she would run forward screaming, in a sort of Mel Gibsonish way in that warrior movie where he paints his face blue and he wears a kilt. She would run and yell, “Miiiiiiiiiine!!!!!!” Not too surprisingly the other girls quickly got the hell out of her way and let her head off for the goal. As a parent on the other team I would have likely thought her to be raised badly and totally out of line. But looking at her, she is my predator and I couldn’t be more pleased that soccer games give her an outlet to bleed some of her aggression off so that she isn’t always chewing on me. Loren had to leave her game a bit early to head off to be a paid linesman at another game in our hometown. He then played a game late in the afternoon that although his team lost, he played like a champ and triumphed over the sleet that so often accompanies spring soccer games in our area.
Yesterday Cassidy popped right out of bed and started yah-yahing to open her presents. I finally let her on the condition that she attend 8 a.m. Mass with me without a single complaint. True to form she ripped open her gifts and then obediantly got dressed for church. We then spent a leisurely afternoon before getting ready for Loren’s Earthday gig. Since this is sort of a wonky area, there are some pretty cool opportunities that roll around every once in awhile. Yesterday a bar was hosting a family friendly Earthday event and Loren’s band was invited to play there. It is about a 45 minute drive to get there but since it is off season I wasn’t too bothered about the usual parking dilema. I loaded up Loren and Devon and we headed off for the early sound check. When we got there Loren’s best friend was there and the two of them walked around the club looking at all the pictures of the acts who have performed there recently. They couldn’t believe that they were actually getting to make their stage debut, other than their school stage, at such an amazingly cool place. I was so pleased for them. I could recall dancing there in earlier years, but to see them on stage? So freaking great. And great they were, at least in a mother’s eyes. There were acts before and after, though the after ones I bailed on because it was way too loud for Devon’s ears and I had to get out of the noise too, but their rendition of Stevie Wonder’s Superstition and a Door’s song and a reggae diddy was the absolute best. Not too shabby for a rainy Sunday.
