Today was the first day since early June that resembled anything close to normal. The older kids went to school, I got a bit of work done and had ample chances to entertain Devon. There was no frantic work to be done at the townehome. There were no doctor appointments. Just my mother sifting through the ever mountainous piles of paper work, Devon and me. I took Devon for a long walk. We talked to the bulls in the neighboring pasture and found acorns among the turning leaves of the oak trees. We then returned home to make chocolate zuchinni bread. Devon was ecstatic when he saw me get out the mixer, he did a little jig as he dragged out his step stool and trolled over to the counter. By the time I had all the pans filled with chocolate goo, he was covered in batter and happy as could be.
Later in the afternoon he and I rocked in the hammock as we gazed at the passing airplaces in the sky. Devon insisted that I sing “Rock-a-bye- Baby” a bazillion times to him as I rocked him to and fro. He laughed until he finally fell out of the hammock and ended up in the grass.
We had no place to be and nothing to accomplish. The luxury of just getting though our day was absolutley lovely.
